I had a dream a while ago that I was friends with a person I've known for years. Unfortunately we've never really got along for some reason or another. So it has inspired a song.
Recorded using a desktop mic in one take, as usual. There is a terrible cut and paste at the end, which comes through as a volume swell. I was using Audacity and I couldn't find the right tools to get it how I wanted.
Lyrics
Verse
We were somewhere familiar
It was like you lived next door
Couldn't help but just sit and chat
In this dream I had
We were getting along so well
Hows it going? Im doing swell
The reality's much farther
From this dream but I could not tell
Chorus
If only it stayed this way
It will be all over
I hope that one day
Maybe it will be like this
Verse 2
We were sitting on the grass
Picking shapes out of the clouds
Just because it was not real
Does not mean I didn't feel it
Chorus 2
If only it stayed this way
It will be all over
I hope that one day
Maybe it will be like this
Can you see me
I wanna try to make it real
Just like that night
That I dreamt we were friends
Coda
I dreamt that we were friends
How could you be so cold
Ice in my bed
Daemons in my head
I dreamt that we were friends
I cant see the reason
That we failed
I couldn't sleep and all I could think of was the title. So I decided to expand, and write a song. Just a demo recorded live using the desktop mic, with some harmonies overdubbed.
Lyrics
I'm caught between the start and end of something
I can't believe this situations happening
As I can see the ends have started fraying
And I am
And I am again..
I'm caught between the start and the end
I don't really know how I got in
It seems there's this rut that I'm stuck in
You keep telling me to get out there
But I am
But I am again..
I'm caught between the start and the end
This is a song I wrote just before I moved to Sydney. Its only a demo recording, but I thought I would upload it anyway :)
It was recorded live in my lounge room using two SM57s. I only have one boom mic stand, so I had one mic on a stand at my mouth with a pop filter in front of it. The other microphone, funnily enough, was sitting in an empty tissue box, about a foot from the guitar, aimed at where the neck meets the body.
The song itself is about two people I've known in my life that have died suddenly. They were both unexpected deaths, and both very young. I didn't know them very well, but I did feel overwhelming sadness on both occasions.
I have been a music enthusiast since a young age. At the age of 5, I remember listening to Under The Bridge by The Red Hot Chili Peppers almost every night with my elder brother, and falling in love with it. My brother was a major influence in the music I listened to, and he introduced me to my still favourite artist Radiohead around the time of The Bends.
When a close childhood friend started playing the guitar, he would come over often to record things he'd come up with on Cool Edit. It was then, that I knew I had a desire to work in music, and I decided to take up the guitar, at 17 years.
I studied both music business and technology at TAFE in Newcastle, NSW, Australia and learned a lot of things about how the music industry works.
My major goal is to become the House Engineer for a reputable studio and record and mix music, helping bands get their music out there.
